Oscar and Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter DIXSON is bringing renewed attention to his 004DAISY EP with a video for “Only-1.”
In collaboration with Khairi Christopher, DIXSON co-directed this monochrome video featuring interpretive dancing by four talented dancers. Juel D. Lane provided directorial assistance, as well as choreographing the visual.
Although DIXSON doesn’t appear in the video, the dancers make up for it with their impressive performance
“Only-1” is the fourth song from DIXSON’S 004DAISY EP to receive an accompanying visual, following the videos for “Sweeter” and “Barely” earlier this year.
Regarding the video for “Sweeter,” DIXSON told Rated R&B in a Twitter Spaces conversation, “I shot the video at my high school. I had a principal there. Her name was Geraldine Thompson. Her husband is a pastor in Atlanta of a pretty big church. I was always so inspired by their relationship with each other — the honesty and the stories we always heard about them.”
DIXSON also shared a video for the Sevyn Streeter-featured “Cherry Sorbet,” which placed inside the top 20 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart last fall.
004DAISY was released last September on Roc Nation Records. It follows his 2021 project, DARLING, which was highlighted in his Front + Center feature by Rated R&B.
“004DAISY is the beta, my own version of freedom. If you let them, they will box you in. This is me boxing back. Round 1. Punching mediocre square in the jaw. My drive is expanding. From God’s ears to yours,” shared DIXSON.
Tinashe, Vic Mensa, Michael Armstead and Stolen Nova also appeared on the project, which was later featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
Super producer Camper teased that he and DIXSON have created new music in the studio. “We probably did two albums right now that’s ready to go too. DIXSON’S coming and it’s crazy,” Camper exclusively tells Rated R&B.
