R&B singer-songwriter SiR has achieved a new certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
His 2018 single “D’Evils” has been certified gold for selling 500,000 equivalent units. The laidback groove, which has over 98 million streams on Spotify, is lifted from his debut album, November, released on Top Dawg Entertainment.
“D’Evils,” produced by D.K. The Punisher, samples Jamaican reggae artist Billy Boyo’s 1981 tune “One Spliff A Day.”
“D’EVils” is SiR’s first solo RIAA award and his second overall. His Kendrick Lamar-featured song, “Hair Down,” was certified gold in August 2020. The latter tune was the lead single from SiR’s critically-acclaimed second album, Chasing Summer, released in 2019.
In May 2022, SiR launched the era for his third album with “Satisfaction.” He followed up with “Life Is Good” featuring Scribz Riley and the D’Angelo-inspired “Nothing Even Matters.” The latter track scored SiR his first top 10 entry on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart earlier this March.
It’s uncertain when SiR will release his highly anticipated follow-up to Chasing Summer. In a June 2022 interview with Rated R&B, he shared the direction of his next album.
“It’s different for me. It’s not Chasing Summer. We did a great job being in the moment with [Chasing Summer] and trying to give the fans something that was me at the time. In this next project, we’re doing the same thing, but in a different way. I’m in a different space mentally, physically and spiritually,” SiR told Rated R&B. “It’s going to be enlightening and tell a side of my life that people haven’t heard yet. So many things have changed with me. It’s going to be nice to reintroduce myself to the world and my fans.”
While fans continue to anticipate SiR’s next album, the Inglewood, California, native has been keeping them engaged with collaborative tracks, including “Work Hard Play Hard” with his brother D Smoke and “Back to Love” with Alex Isley. He also appeared on “Lay Up” with Syd on Creed III: The Soundtrack.
