R&B megastar Usher has made a new appearance on Billboard this week with his latest single “Boyfriend.”
The track, co-written by Camper and Rico Love, enters at No. 6 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart, led by Lizzo’s “Good As Hell.” It marks his 18th top 10 hit on this chart, which according to Billboard, counts “the week’s most popular downloaded songs, ranked by sales data as compiled by Luminate.”
Usher’s “Good Good” featuring 21 Savage and Summer Walker debuted at No. 1 on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart last week, marking his second time atop the chart. It’s now No. 2 at the time of publication.
Doubling back to “Boyfriend,” the track also starts at No. 20 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart. It’s Usher’s 35th entry on this chart.
Meanwhile, “Good Good,” which launched at No. 4 last week on the previous chart, dropped to No. 10 this week.
“Boyfriend” is Usher’s third single released this year. It was released Aug. 16 via mega, Usher and L.A. Reid’s new imprint, in collaboration with Larry Jackson’s gamma. Camper and Love co-produced it Laney Stewart, Tricky Stewart, and Believve.
A supporting music video co-starring actress and singer Keke Palmer was released alongside “Boyfriend.” The video has garnered over 4.2 million views on YouTube since it was released on the platform.
“Boyfriend” is the follow-up to “Good Good” and “GLU.” The latter track led the Adult R&B Airplay chart for two weeks in the spring. It also peaked atop R&B radio.
Most recently, Usher unveiled the Warren Fu-directed visual for “Good Good,” produced by Mel & Mus. The song is currently No. 1 on iTunes’ R&B Songs chart.
Beyond iTunes, “Good Good” impressed upon its release as mentioned above. It made top 10 placements on two Billboard charts, as well as top 20 entries on a few others.
Elsewhere, “Good Good” is this week’s most added song at R&B radio, with eight new adds. It’s No. 23 on the format, while it’s No. 15 on urban radio.
All three songs mentioned are expected to appear on Usher’s hugely-anticipated ninth album, slated to arrive on mega and gamma. The album has not received an official release date or title.
