Sean “Diddy” Combs has announced the title and release date for his upcoming album. The Love Album: Off the Grid is set to arrive Sept. 15 on his Love Records label in partnership with Motown Records.
Combs shared the news via YouTube, posting a four-minute trailer co-starring The Weeknd, Mary J. Blige, Babyface, Summer Walker, Justin Bieber, DJ Khaled, 21 Savage, Stacey Barthe and more. Jozzy, the rising singer-songwriter signed to his Love Records label, also makes an appearance in the video.
Vignettes from Combs’ lavish life at the beach, on a yacht, in the strip club, in the studio, and performing on-stage are scattered throughout. He hints at why he chose the title for his album.
“I had to go off the grid in order to really lock in. I was so addicted to my phone. So addicted to my work. So addicted to the bullshit,” Combs stated in the clip.
Combs shared his beliefs on what fans will take away from The Love Album: Off the Grid. “I’m coming with something where you can listen to your heart; listen to the way you feel,” he added.
Combs announced his upcoming album in May 2022, revealing the launch of Love Records in partnership with Motown Records.
“Music has always been my first love. Love Records is the next chapter is about getting back to the love and making the best music of my life,” said Combs.
“For the label, I’m focused on creating timeless R&B music with the next generation of artists and producers. Motown is the perfect partner for my album and I’m excited to add to its legacy.”
Combs shared he’d star as the album’s executive producer, curator, and A&R, with a release date set for that summer.
In June 2022, Combs released “Gotta Move On” featuring Bryson Tiller as the first single from his album. The collaboration also produced alternate versions, including a Queens Remix featuring Ashanti and Yung Miami of City Girls. The latter version’s music video was nominated at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
That winter, the original version of “Gotta Move On” became Combs’ first chart-topper on R&B radio and Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Prior to that milestone, Combs sparked healthy debates about the state of R&B on Instagram and revealed the artists who would feature on his upcoming untitled album, including Jazmine Sullivan, Ty Dolla $ign, H.E.R., Kehlani, and more.
It was revealed that the album was delayed until early 2023, but it never materialized.
Since then, Combs has released two other tracks: the PARTYNEXTDOOR-assisted “Sex in the Porsche” and “Act Bad” featuring Fabolous and City Girls.
It has yet to be confirmed whether those two tracks will be included in the tracklist for The Love Album: Off the Grid.
