Emerging singer-songwriter Naomi Sharon has released her debut album, Obsidian, via OVO Sound.
The 13-track offering includes the previously shared songs “Another Life,” “Celestial,” “Definition of Love,” and “Regardless.” Sharon’s 2021 song “Hills” is also a bonus track.
She previously explained, “‘Hills’ is a song about a relationship that has gone toxic, and is not in a healthy state anymore. While it’s quite difficult to distance yourself from someone you love, sometimes it might be the best thing to do. I hope you love this video a much as I loved the process of creating it.”
For her first album, Sharon decided to keep it light in terms of features, with Nigerian artist Omah Lay as the sole guest (“Push It”).
“Obsidian is a protective stone that shields against negative energy. Given its sharpness, the stone is considered to pierce into darkness to reveal the truth itself,” says Sharon. “I called this album Obsidian as it’s about rebirth, confrontation and healing. [Obsidian] is just me being very vulnerable and that’s something that I’m missing in the industry right now.”
In January, Sharon was announced as the first woman to sign to Drake’s OVO Sound label. Her announcement was accompanied by her debut single, “Another Life,” and its B-side, “Celestial.”
Drake wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post: “@naomisharon I been waiting for this day for too long now where the world finally gets to digest the insane amount of work you have put in since we met.”
The former track, co-produced by Beau Nox and Alex Lustig, has over 2.7 million streams on Spotify.
Meanwhile, the Noah “40” Shebib-produced “Celestial” has amassed 1.8 million streams on the streaming service.
In August, Sharon released Another Life (Remixes), a three-pack collection of alternative versions of “Another Life.” It included a Cincity remix, a Marten Lou remix, and an Aaron Hibell remix.
In late September, the Dutch-Caribbean singer shared a delightful live performance video for “Definition of Love.”
