BET Networks’ streaming service BET+ continues to expand its original film programming. The network has announced Favorite Son Christmas, starring Tank. It premieres Thursday, Dec. 14, exclusively on BET+.
The original film was directed by Robin Givens, written by Patricia Cuffie Jones, and produced by Swirl Films and Eric Tomosunas.
Tank stars as Blaine, the newly appointed pastor of Graceway Church, where his late father once presided. Upon accepting the role, Blaine learns that the church is in dire financial straits.
However, he hopes that an upcoming anniversary celebration will bring in enough love offerings to help them recover. Rita (played by Lisa Arrindell), the First Lady, suggests a SO GIFTED reunion to boost ticket sales.
The cast also includes Serayah (The Sound of Christmas, Empire), MC Lyte (Partners in Rhyme, Civil Band), Loren Lott (Praise This, The Young and the Restless), Jekalyn Carr (Praise This, Traceless), Anthony Evans (One Nation Under God) and Darrel Walls.
Tank previously starred alongside Keri Hilson in Lust: A Deadly Sins Saga, which is part of Lifetime’s Seven Deadly Sins anthology and aired in spring 2021.
The R&B General released his tenth and final album, R&B Money, in August 2022. The album spawned four No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart: “Can’t Let It Show,” “I Deserve,” “Slow” (featuring J. Valentine), and “See Through Love” (featuring Chris Brown).
With this achievement, Tank became the first male solo act to have four No. 1s from a single album (R&B Money) on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.
R&B Money was ranked No. 16 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
As part of Black Music Month, Tank performed for NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series to promote R&B Money. That same month, Tank made a special Tiny Desk appearance as a backing vocalist for music icon Babyface.
Tank is currently on the R&B Music Experience Tour for fall dates to promote R&B Money.
