Tank’s “See Through Love” featuring Chris Brown has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It’s Tank’s eighth No. 1 on this list and Brown’s fourth.
Tank becomes the first male solo act to achieve four No. 1s from one album (R&B Money) on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
Maxwell, Bruno Mars and Boyz II Men each have scored three No. 1s from their respective releases, 2009’s BLACKsummers’night, 2016’s 24K Magic and 1994’s II.
Meanwhile, Mars, as part of Silk Sonic (with Anderson .Paak), also claimed three No. 1s from the same standard album: An Evening With Silk Sonic.
It’s worth noting that Silk Sonic’s version of Con Funk Shun‘s “Love’s Train” went No. 1 but wasn’t on the original An Evening With Silk Sonic. It was later added to the digital and vinyl versions.
Tank is now only second behind Toni Braxton, who held this record as the lone act for 29 years on this chart.
The ascension of Tank’s “See Through Love” comes six months after he scored his third No. 1 from R&B Money, “Slow” with J. Valentine.
Tank’s eight chart-toppers on the Adult R&B Airplay chart include:
- “Please Don’t Go,” ten weeks at No. 1, beginning May 19, 2007 (Sex, Love & Pain)
- “Next Breath,” one week at No. 1, June 16, 2012 (This Is How I Feel)
- “When We,” 11 weeks at No. 1, beginning Nov. 18, 2017 (Savage)
- “Dirty,” three weeks at No. 1, beginning April 20, 2019 (Elevation)
- “Can’t Let It Show,” two weeks at No. 1, beginning July 3, 2021 (R&B Money)
- “I Deserve,” one week at No. 1, March 19, 2022 (R&B Money)
- “Slow” featuring J. Valentine, two weeks at No. 1, beginning Nov. 5, 2022 (R&B Money)
- “See Through Love” featuring Chris Brown, one week at No. 1 to date, May 20, 2023 (R&B Money)
Additionally, Tank enters a three-way tie with Maxwell and Kem in second place among male artists to have the most No. 1s on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. Charlie Wilson holds the crown with nine No. 1s. Alicia Keys has the most No. 1s among all R&B acts with 13.
Tank first announced “See Through Love” as his fourth and final single from R&B Money on Jan 29. No official music video has yet been released for the track.
R&B Money was released on Aug. 19, 2022. It was touted as Tank’s tenth and final album. The album includes additional features from Vedo, Alex Isley, Rotimi and more.
R&B Money was featured on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list. It ranked at No. 16.
Tank supported the album with the Legacy Tour anchored by New Edition with other acts, including Keith Sweat and Guy.
Last month, Tank lent his talents to Dinner Party’s most recent album, Enigmatic Society.
