Jhené Aiko’s 2014 single “The Worst” has achieved a new award from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The Fisticuffs-produced tune is now certified 5x platinum for selling over five million equivalent units. The song is now halfway to diamond status, which is awarded to songs that achieve 10 million equivalent units.
“The Worst” now ties with Aiko’s “Sativa,” featuring Swae Lee, as her highest-certified single. The latter track, also produced by Fisticuffs, received its 5x platinum award in July 2022.
“The Worst” appears on Aiko’s debut EP, Sail Out, which was released in 2013. The song has garnered more than 285 million streams on Spotify.
It’s the most-streamed track from Sail Out on the streaming service. The official video has nearly 180 million views on YouTube.
Released as the second single from Sail Out, “The Worst” spent three weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart. It also peaked at No. 43 on the Hot 100.
At the 57th Grammy Awards, “The Worst” scored a Best R&B Song nomination, while Sail Out was nominated for Best Urban Contemporary R&B Album.
Last September, “Comfort Inn Ending (Freestyle),” the final track on Sail Out, was certified platinum by the RIAA.
The following songs from Sail Out have an RIAA certification: “The Worst” (5x platinum), “Stay Ready (What A Life)” featuring Kendrick Lamar (platinum), and “Comfort Inn Ending (Freestyle)” (platinum).
While it’s been nearly four years since Aiko released an album, she hasn’t starved her fans completely of new music.
In 2023, she dropped two soothing songs, “calm & patient” and “alive & well (gratitude mantra).”
