Jhene Aiko Sativa

Def Jam Recordings

According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Jhené Aiko’s best-selling single is “Sativa,” the original version featuring Swae Lee. The song is now certified 5x multi-platinum with cumulative U.S. sales of more than five million equivalent units.

“Sativa” is lifted from Aiko’s 2017 album Trip. The Fisticuffs-produced cut has reached streams of over 271 million on Spotify, reigning as Aiko’s most popular song on the platform. An alternative version exists that features Rae Sremmurd, composed of Swae Lee and his brother Slim Jxmmi.

In the runner-up slot as Aiko’s most-certified release of her career is Big Sean’s “Beware,” featuring her and Lil Wayne, plus her 2014 breakout single “The Worst.” Both songs are certified 3x multi-platinum.

Aiko earned additional RIAA awards for the songs “Happiness Over Everything (H.O.E.)” and “Wading.” The first one, which features Future and Miguel, now stands at platinum status, surpassing one million equivalent units sold. The other track was honored with a gold certification.

With those two new songs, Aiko has had seven certified releases from her 2020 album Chilombo. Other tracks include the H.E.R.-assisted “B.S.” (2x multi-platinum) and “P*$$Y Fairy (OTW)” (platinum), among others. This figure excludes the Grammy-nominated album itself, which went platinum following its placement on Rated R&B’s best R&B albums of 2020 list.

In March, Aiko and Kendrick Lamar brought home a platinum honor for “Stay Ready (What a Life),” the Fisticuffs-produced track from her Grammy-recognized EP Sail Out, released in 2013.

Up next for Aiko is a handful of summer festival stops, spanning from the Mo Pop Music Festival in Detroit, Michigan, on July 31, to the LetsGetFr.ee Festival in New York on Aug. 20. Aiko was slated to appear at the Day N Vegas Festival on Sept. 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada, but the star-studded affair was canceled.

Aiko recently launched her label Allel Sound in partnership with Def Jam Recordings. AUGUST 08 is the first signee, releasing his latest project, Towards the Moon, on the imprint. Aiko is featured on the EP’s focus track, “Water Sign.”

Outside of music, Aiko and rapper Big Sean are expecting their first child together.
