Rising singer and songwriter UMI has teamed up with K-pop artist V of BTS for her latest track, “wherever u r.”
On the gentle track, UMI and V sing about their interests, keeping them close even when they’re apart.
Discussing the new song, UMI declares it as a dedication to “all people with loved ones in different time zones, states, places.”
UMI continues, “It’s a reminder that love is a frequency that can be felt no matter the distance. So, allow yourself to send love. It is always felt – in that random urge to text someone, call them or smile.”
UMI revealed how her song with V came about organically and transformed over time.
“We recently connected when he shared my song on Instagram – and very organically we started chatting about music & life. Eventually, we decided to create a song together,” UMI explains. “With no agenda ~ just for the fun of it. When I found out he was going to the military, the theme of the song started to deepen, and we knew this would be a special song to share with both of our fans. It was all very organic and in the moment.”
UMI’s collaboration with the BTS member follows her track “why don’t we go.” She released her flirtatious song alongside an announcement for her upcoming EP, talking to the wind. It releases Jan. 19.
According to marketing materials, the project will see “UMI in a confident new light as she fully embraces love, life, but above all, feeling okay with being lost in the world.”
Talking to the wind will consist of four tracks, including “why don’t we go” and “happy im.” The latter track, which she co-wrote with V-Ron, was unveiled last August as the lead offering from the EP.
It has not been confirmed whether “wherever u r” will be a part of the talking to the wind tracklist.
UMI’s next project release is the follow-up to her 2022 debut album, Forest in the City, released on Keep Cool/RCA Records.
