SiR has teamed with rapper and Top Dawg Entertainment labelmate Isaiah Rashad for his new single, “Karma.”
Over a lush backdrop, produced by Sigurd, SiR contemplates past faults, taking accountability and recognizing the need for self-improvement. Despite being mindful of the path ahead, he accepts that karma may still be waiting for him — and he’s at peace with that.
“I need to stop treating hoes like I need them / I’m too busy making promises when I can’t keep them,” he sings. “I keep making the same mistake when I should be learning from it / Oh, karma coming and it’s prolly gon’ be bad for me / Nothing I can do / It’s gon’ be what it has to be.”
The introspective track is accompanied by a Loris Russier-directed video. The dramatic, cinematic clip follows SiR and other characters as they face their respective karmic challenges.
“Karma” marks SiR’s second collaboration with Isaiah Rashad. SiR appeared on Rashad’s “Rope” from his 2017 album, The Sun’s Tirade.
“Karma” is the follow-up to “No Evil,” released in January. Both songs will appear on SiR’s new album, Heavy, out March 22 via Top Dawg Entertainment. The upcoming project will also include the previously shared tracks “Satisfaction,” “Life Is Good” featuring Scribz Riley, “Nothing Even Matters” and “No Evil.”
Heavy is the follow-up to SiR’s 2019 album, Chasing Summer. The album debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, becoming SiR’s first top 10 on that list.
In a 2022 interview with Rated R&B, SiR discussed the direction of his next album. “This project focuses a lot on my mental health. It talks about two sides of my life and how they intertwine,” he shared. “I went through some stuff and had to figure out what I wanted. I think we do a good job of painting a very vivid picture of the duality of being an artist and a regular, everyday man. I know there’s music on here that people need to hear.”
