Lucky Daye has released his new single, “Soft.”
On the track, which fuses R&B and rock, Daye sings, “You’re making me soft / Got me nervous, shakin’ every time that you kiss me / Got me on your string like a symphony.”
“Soft’ is about how love can come over a person and make them feel vulnerable, and whilst it’s unexpected, it’s also okay to embrace it,” explains Daye. “To be comfortable doing the things society labels ‘soft’ like cuddling, PDA, hugging and kissing – shamelessly. It’s about a lover putting a spell on you but that spell is in fact love itself.”
“Soft” was co-produced by Daye’s longtime collaborator D’Mile, Livvy Bennett, and Michael B. Hunter. It’s the third single from Daye’s upcoming album, Algorithm, out June 28 via RCA Records. “Soft” follows “HERicane” and “That’s You.”
Speaking on the latter song, co-produced by Bruno Mars, Daye said, “I sang my heart out on ‘That’s You.’ I felt like I was on the moon. I want people to think about that one person they just can’t be without when they listen. Hopefully, that person is a good person.”
As for “HERicane,” he noted, “This song is about being grounded in a chaotic relationship. It’s important for people to be reminded that it’s a good time to be yourself and shine. Just be grounded and fierce in who you are.”
Algorithm, Daye’s third album, will follow 2022’s Candydrip. The Grammy-nominated album included the single “Over,” also nominated for a Grammy. Candydrip was ranked No. 1 on Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
On July 11, Daye will kick off The Algorithm Tour in San Fransisco. The North American leg will make stops in Denver, Chicago, Toronto, New Orleans, Washington, D.C., and more, before concluding Aug. 28 in Los Angeles.
