It’s here. Ariana Grande has released her “The Boy Is Mine (Remix)” with Brandy and Monica.
Mo opens the remix with her rendition of Grande’s original first verse, followed by Brandy in the second verse. Both singers continue adding their signature vocals throughout the track, breathing new life into an already-established bop.
The remix comes just weeks after the two R&B icons appeared in Grande’s “The Boy Is Mine” video.
Grande’s “The Boy Is Mine” is the latest single from her seventh album, eternal sunshine, released March 8 via Republic Records. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with 227,000 equivalent units sold.
Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine” was released in 1998. The Darkchild and Dallas Austin-produced hit spent 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song won Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal at the 41st Grammy Awards in 1999. It marked Brandy and Monica’s first and only Grammy win thus far.
“The Boy Is Mine” was the lead single for Brandy and Monica’s second albums, respectively. Brandy’s sophomore effort, Never Say Never, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
Monica’s sophomore album, titled after the duet, debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart and No. 8 on the Billboard 200.
In other news, Brandy will reprise her role as Cinderella in Disney’s Descendants: The Rise of Red, which premieres on Disney+ on July 12. Furthermore, she will star in the A24-produced thriller The Front Room, which hits U.S. theaters Sept. 8.
On a music note, Brandy released a holiday album in 2023 titled Christmas With Brandy via Bran Nu/Motown Records. The album debuted at No. 29 on Billboard’s Top Holiday Albums chart.
As for Monica, the “Still Standing” singer recently concluded her support on the U.S. leg of Nicki Minaj‘s Pink Friday 2 World Tour.
In 2023, Monica joined Minaj on her uplifting track “Love Me Enough” alongside Keyshia Cole. Earlier that year, she released her single “Letters,” which she co-wrote with Ciara, Tasha Catour, Alicia Renee Williams, and Brian “Killah B” Bates. “Letters” arrived a year after her Ty Dolla $ign-assisted single “Friends.”
Both songs are expected to appear on Monica’s oft-delayed album, Trenches, which has no release date yet. The album will also include the Lil Baby-assisted title track, produced by The Neptunes.
