Genre-bending artist Fridayy has picked up a new solo certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
His 2023 single, “When It Comes To You,” is certified platinum, with one million equivalent units sold. It’s Fridayy’s second platinum RIAA certification, following his appearance on Lil Baby’s “Forever” in 2022.
“When It Comes To You” was released on July 21, 2023, as the second single from the Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter’s self-titled debut album, which was released a month later.
He co-produced the song with KVRIM, Kofo and Aidan Brody.
“‘When It Comes To You’ is very soulful and loving. I made this for anyone that has someone special in their life that they are willing to do anything for. It’s an uplifting love story, and the video brings that essence to life,” Fridayy told Rated R&B about the song’s creation.
Speaking of the video, it has surpassed 61 million views on YouTube.
“When It Comes To You,” which has over 44 million Spotify streams, peaked at No. 8 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It marked Fridayy’s first top 10 hit on the chart.
As stated above, Fridayy released his self-titled debut project in August 2023 through Lost In Melody/Def Jam Recordings. The 14-track effort includes “Don’t Give It Away,” the lead single featuring Chris Brown.
Fridayy also features from Adekunle Gold, Maverick City Music, Byron Messia, Fireboy DM, and his mother.
Following Friday, the Philadelphia native has gained nominations at the 2023 Soul Train Awards and the 2024 BET Awards. He also released new music, including “Without You” in March and “Baddest In The Room” in June.
Fridayy also collaborated with Will Smith, The Chainsmokers and DJ Snake.
Currently, Fridayy is set to support Buju Banton’s Overcomer Tour. The North American leg begins on Sept. 23 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and includes cities such as Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Atlanta.
