Tinashe has released Quantum Baby, the second installment of her album trilogy.
The eight-track set includes the viral lead single “Nasty” and the follow-up “Getting No Sleep.”
“Quantum Baby is about getting to know me on a deeper level,” explained Tinashe. “It’s about exploring who I am as a person and who I am as an artist.”
She added, “I’ve never been one to be put into a box, so the name Quantum Baby encompasses all the different parts that make up who I am as a creative.”
Across 22 minutes, Tinashe embarks on a journey where she soul searches (“No Simulation”), has steamy sex (“Thirsty”), commits her heart to a prospective lover (“Cross That Line”) and embraces her self-worth (“No Broke Boys”).
On “When I Get You Alone,” a standout behind “Thirsty,” Tinashe’s frosted vocals glide over muted, thunderous drums. Lyrically, she craves one-on-one time with her lover between the sheets.
“Let me be your baby / Right here, right now, I been waiting for ya / Tell me when you’re ready / I’ma lay you down, take it nice and slow,” Tinashe sings in a weightless falsetto.
Just when you become hooked on the spellbinding track, it melts into part two, where the production gets a rhythmic boost. The relationship has ended here, but Tinashe knows lust still lingers.
“Just can’t go from friends to enemies / Can’t hit my line at 1 a.m / You know we gon’ f**k eventually / You want me still, don’t you pretend / How the hell you gon’ let me go?” she sings.
Quantum Baby is the follow-up to 2023’s BB/ANG3L. “For BB/ANG3L, I was very inspired by the concept of identity. Exploring both how I self-identify and also challenging the perceptions of others,” Tinashe explained.
“I believe how we identify in this world is ultimately our own personal choice; and I’ve enjoyed stripping back layers of aesthetic fluff, smoke & mirrors, and white noise to get down to the core of myself. Who we are at a core level, when we are alone – raw & unfiltered, is what I want this album to reflect.”
BB/ANG3L included the singles “Needs” and “Talk To Me Nice.”
On Oct. 14, Tinashe will launch her Match My Freak Tour at House of Blues in Anaheim, California. The North American leg will make stops in Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., Toronto, Chicago, and more.
The tour will conclude Nov. 25 at Ace of Spades in Sacramento. Raveena will join Tinashe as a special guest.
