Tamar Braxton has a new album in the works and has enlisted her longtime collaborator, producer Tricky Stewart.
Braxton shared the news in a now-deleted Instagram story, along with her thoughts on those circulating negative headlines about her life.
There are no further details about the as-yet-untitled album; however, Stewart did post on his Instagram, acknowledging their collaboration.
In a 45-second video, Stewart is seen vibing out in a studio while Braxton sings an unreleased track. Stewart compliments her performance, and the two eventually embrace.
“What a blessing it is to still be making records with my Day 1s! @tamarbraxton 30 years in… can’t wait for y’all to hear what’s next,” Stewart wrote in his caption for the Instagram post.
Braxton and Tricky Stewart have a long history, working together as far back as 1996 when Tamar, Tawanda, and Trina released their Atlantic Records debut album, So Many Ways, as The Braxtons. Stewart worked on four tracks from the 12-track release, including “Slow Flow” and “Where’s the Good in Goodbye.”
Four years later, Stewart served as the executive producer, as well as a co-writer and producer for Braxton’s debut album, Tamar, released in 2000 by DreamWorks.
Stewart was involved in the creation of several tracks, including “If You Don’t Wanna Love Me,” the album’s second single, and “Words,” which was named an underrated gem by Rated R&B.
The two reunited for Love and War, Braxton’s 2013 sophomore album. Stewart co-wrote and co-produced “Stay and Fight,” a notable, piano-laden standout from the set.
The album was subsequently nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best Urban Contemporary Album at the 56th Grammy Awards.
Most recently, Braxton guested on Eric Benét’s “Something We Can Make Love To.” The steamy duet was produced by Laney Stewart, the brother of Tricky.
In an interview with Rated R&B, Benét discussed how Tricky was involved in making the song with Braxton happen, which was not originally meant as a duet.
“The song, as I understand it, wasn’t conceived as a duet,” Benét exclusively tells Rated R&B. “It was conceived as a guy singing about a girl who he’s trying to get with. Tricky presented the idea to Tamar, and then lyrically, they made it a duet situation.”
“I was not in the studio when she laid her vocal down, but Tricky was texting me, giving me the play-by-play. like, ‘Yo, she sounds crazy on this sh*t. I can’t wait for you to hear it.’ As soon as I heard a vocal, I was incredibly moved,” Benét added.
“Something We Can Make Love To” is the lead single from Benét’s upcoming Duets EP, out Aug. 23.
Circling back to Braxton, she has not released a new studio album since 2017, which included Bluebird of Happiness. The 11-track album was propped up by its lead single “My Man.”
Since her last album, Braxton has recorded an album that mysteriously disappeared and released several songs, including “Crazy Kind of Love,” “Changed,” and her most recent, “Notice Me.” The first pair of singles peaked within the top 10 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, respectively.
Braxton also released a new holiday song (“You Bring The Love“) during a headline tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of her Love and War album.
In non-music-related news, Tamar has returned to WE TV for a new season of The Braxtons with her siblings and mother, Ms. Evelyn Braxton.
The new series premiered on Friday, Aug. 9. It will air on Fridays at 9:30 p.m. EST. It will also be available for streaming on ALLBLK.
Stewart, who has worked with artists such as Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, and Rihanna, recently earned another No. 1 song for his work on Muni Long’s “Make Me Forget.” The D’Angelo-sampled track reached the top of Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart this week, marking Long’s first time in the top spot on this chart.
