Singer-songwriters Elijah Blake and Sevyn Streeter have joined forces for a new track, “Stuck in My Ways.”
On the soulful track, produced by Eric Hudson, Blake and Streeter sing about a relationship that is on the brink of collapse.
“What if I don’t know / Where to go from here? / As soon as loving me, loving me / Became a heavy load / You disappeared / Silence in my loneliness,” Blake sings in the first verse.
Streeter responds in verse two, singing, “We should learn from our mistakes / Talk it out, not run away / Baby hear me loud, Oh I don’t want to lose you / ‘Cause I get upset too / That ain’t no excuse to get in our own way.”
“Stuck in My Ways” is the first offering from elijah!, the deluxe edition of Blake’s eponymous album due Oct. 25 via MRNK Records.
The deluxe album will include nine bonus tracks, with additional features from Keyshia Cole, Kim Burrell, Salt of Salt-n-Pepa, Kirby, Maeta, Tone Stith, Jaz Karis, Tiana Major9, and Kareen Lomax.
Blake released his album elijah. on Aug. 2. The album was preceded by the singles “Ghostbuster,” “Sugarwater & Lime” and “Company.”
In an interview with Rated R&B, Blake explained why the standard edition didn’t contain features. “There are no features on the project. I wanted it to be just me, my thoughts, my stories, my joy, my pain, and my shame,” Blake told Rated R&B.
He added, “As much as I love collaborating, I didn’t want to give a chance for somebody to interject themselves in the storytelling and mislead the listener. I feel like me, and all my quirkiness and all my weird things in those nuances are necessary in this R&B space.”
“Stuck in My Ways” marks Streeter’s second collaboration of 2024. Earlier this year, she appeared on Eric Bellinger‘s song “Drop” from his album The Rebirth 3.
