Tinashe has released a music video for her Z3N-produced single, “Cross That Line.”
Directed by Jonah Haber, the visual picks up where “No Broke Boys” left off, in which a breaking news broadcast reported a perpetrator on the run (Tinashe) had been caught after a long vehicle chase in the desert.
In the new clip, two bodyguards drag the singer through a hallway as she squirms to break from their grip. After getting locked in a camera-filled room with a lone television in the corner, Tinashe delivers an impressive solo choreographed number. She turns on the TV to discover she’s being watched by onlookers. You’ll have to watch the video to see how she finds a way out.
Per press materials, “The video touches on the concepts of perception and surveillance, which have been a through line during the Quantum Baby rollout.”
“Cross That Line” is the fourth video shared from Tinashe’s seventh album, Quantum Baby. She launched the era with her viral hit “Nasty,” now certified gold by the RIAA, followed by “Getting No Sleep” and “No Broke Boys.”
Quantum Baby is the second installment of Tinashe’s album trilogy, which began with 2023’s BB/ANG3L. “Quantum Baby is about getting to know me on a deeper level,” explained Tinashe. “It’s about exploring who I am as a person and who I am as an artist.”
She added, “I’ve never been one to be put into a box, so the name Quantum Baby encompasses all the different parts that make up who I am as a creative.”
During an Instagram Live broadcast in August, Tinashe told fans why she decided to make a trilogy. “I went in creating this album with the intention of making a three-part series. Basically, in my mind, I had part one, part two and some of part three already completed. However, I gave myself the space and the privilege of being able to make more records as I went, depending on what I’m inspired by at the time or what’s speaking to me as I release. I think there’s something super underrated about being able to get in the studio and make songs and then put them out quickly.”
She continued, “I think of them all as one album. So that’s why I’ve broken it into sections like this. Also, I want to give people the amount of time to really sink their teeth into every single part of the project and really appreciate every single song. Y’all attention spans are so motherf—king short.”
Tinashe is supporting Quantum Baby on her Match My Freak World Tour. The North American leg concluded in late November. She will launch the Australian leg on Dec. 29 and will perform across the continent through early January.
She will then head to Japan, where she will perform in Osaka and Tokyo. In February, Tinashe will launch the European/U.K. leg of the tour, which will wrap up at the end of the month. Tickets are available at tinashenow.com.
In other news, Tinashe has been announced as a performer for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on Dec. 31.
