Actor and singer Algee Smith has released his new EP Love Lost via 7 Scope Records.
The six-track project finds Smith navigating the aftermath of a breakup with his heart on his sleeve. From the jump, he doesn’t hesitate to bare his feelings, opening with the somber “Numb.”
Even after taking a trip to “Magic City,” where he tries to escape the pain, songs like “Spiraling,” which interpolates Brandy and Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine,” hold a mirror to the emotional toll of a toxic relationship.

On the guitar ballad “The Way It Goes,” Smith comes to terms with letting go of a relationship that no longer serves him.
“‘The Way It Goes’ is my favorite song on the EP because it’s when I’m the most vulnerable throughout the whole project,” Smith exclusively tells Rated R&B. “The acoustic vibe really allowed me to access a different level of emotional depth that was needed in order to convey the message.”
Speaking on Love Lost, Smith shares, “This EP is very personal for me. It represents growth, heartbreak, accountability, and vulnerability. The timing couldn’t be better. I’ve matured a lot as an artist, and this project displays that.”
Love Lost was preceded by the singles “Honest,” “Sinners” and “Magic City.”
Regarding the latter track, he explained, “‘Magic City’ is about a beautiful distraction. It’s a story of a man masking his pain with temporary pleasure or distractions. The club-like bounce and smooth melodies draw you in instantly, but then you realize this is actually a song about heartbreak.”
