Nija doesn’t want a love that feels forced. On her new single “Back Outside,” the R&B singer-songwriter is content with letting a budding romance dissipate if her partner isn’t ready to commit fully.
“So, if you ever wanna leave / You should try it, yes, indeed / It’s okay with me / Baby, I would / Give you right back to the streets,” she sings.
Nija co-produced “Back Outside” with Jack Rochon, Serg Dio, Christian McCurdy and Ace G. It follows “Heaven” and “32nd Floor,” which were both released over the spring.

Regarding the former, she told Rated R&B, “‘Heaven’ is about that feeling when love hits you so deep it feels like a high. It’s dreamy, it’s intense, and a little dangerous—but you don’t want to come down. I wanted the song to feel like floating in the middle of a moment you never want to end.”
Last fall, Nija made her musical return with “Unruly,” her first single in two years. “I wrote ‘Unruly’ because I felt like the girlies needed another anthem to celebrate themselves. It’s about knowing who you are, knowing your worth and knowing the power you possess while looking good doing it,” Nija told Rated R&B.
She continued, “It’s the soundtrack to leaving whatever hurt you behind you and feeling good about yourself, going out with your girls, treating yourself, and living your best life — but sexy drill so you can bop. My last project was about heartbreak and this upcoming one is about how it plays out when you’re done with that. We really outside now.”
All four tracks will appear on Nija’s upcoming project, which will be self-released. It will follow her debut EP, Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You, released in January 2022.
