Using Spotify as its streaming vehicle, Electric Lady Studios continues to attract music’s best and brightest stars to record extended plays at the legendary hub founded by Jimi Hendrix in 1970.
Grammy-winning singer Yebba is next up at bat and hits a home-run shot with her own Live at Electric Lady EP.
Assembling a fine team of collaborators, including Yebba’s band leader James Francies, Questlove, Pino Palladino, Charles Myers, and others, the West Memphis, Arkansas, native gave new life to five songs, four of which appeared on her Dawn debut from last August.

The finest live recording, “The Age of Worry,” is a cover of a John Mayer track from his 2012 album Born and Raised. One close to Yebba’s heart, the beloved song was first recorded by Mayer, alongside bass player Palladino, at Electric Lady Studios.
Speaking on Yebba’s Live at Electric Lady EP, Francies said, “Rerecording some of these songs with fresh eyes and ears really changed the way we approached them. Having the core members of the band from Dawn really brought that feeling of what it was like the past few years when we recorded it.”
He added, “From Questlove, to Pino, to Charles [Myers] and the string quartet, I think we all found comfort in being in a familiar space with familiar people. It felt like a family reunion.”
Recent performers at Electric Lady Studios include Patti Smith, Japanese Breakfast, and Jon Batiste, the most-nominated artist at this year’s Grammys.
Yebba recently performed alongside Lucky Daye in his extended live scene of “How Much Can a Heart Take.” The duet, taken from Daye’s Grammy-nominated Table For Two project, received a Best Traditional R&B Performance nomination at the 2022 Grammys.
She’ll appear on Robert Glasper’s forthcoming album Black Radio III when it arrives on Feb. 25.
