Rising R&B singer Khamari has released his debut album, A Brief Nirvana, on RCA Records.

The 11-track project includes the previously shared tunes “Right My Wrongs,” “On My Way,” “Tell Me,” “Drifting” and “Doctor, My Eyes.”

Regarding the latter track, released as the lead single, Khamari shared, “‘Doctor, My Eyes’ is about looking for perspective. When I wrote it I had moved from Boston to LA and was trying to make sense of my life. A lot of things were shifting too fast to keep up with, but things I hoped would change stayed the same.”

He added, “I got put on to this Jackson Browne record, and the story resonated with me. That’s where I got the title. It’s about him being desperate to make any sense of his life and experiences. Then a friend played me Incubus, the song ‘Mexico.’ I knew I wanted to lay out these thoughts over a guitar that intimate. In the outro my grandfather is the voice that gives me advice because he’s always been an anchor for me.”

Speaking on A Brief Nirvana, Khamari says, “This album is a story about uncomfortable growth,” he explained. “Recording this gave me perspective and made me realize the search for clarity and nirvana is a lifelong one. Maybe I was asking for a lot in the beginning stages, but that doesn’t change the fact that peace is ultimately what we all want.”

Among the new batch tracks is the guitar-laden “Cherry Picking,” a realization to embrace all of love’s moments – not just the good ones. “It can’t just be good times / They’re only sometimes,” Khamari sings.

“These Four Walls,” another standout, hears Khamari finding solace in solitude. “These four walls keep me company / They don’t ask for much / Don’t just up and leave,” Khamari sings over acoustic strums underscored by a velvety bass.

A Brief Nirvana is the follow-up to Khamari’s debut EP, Eldorado, released in 2019. The project included popular tracks such as “The Heat” and “Jealous.”
