Coco Jones is now a Grammy-winning artist. The singer won Best R&B Performance for her breakout single “ICU” at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday.
“ICU” was nominated among other solid R&B tracks, including Chris Brown’s “Summer Too Hot,” Robert Glasper’s “Back To Love” featuring SiR and Alex Isley, Victoria Monét’s “How Does It Make You Feel” and SZA’s “Kill Bill.”
Jones’ award was announced during the premiere ceremony, which was held at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, ahead of the 66th Grammy Awards at Crypto.com Arena.
Jones was not present to accept her award at the non-televised ceremony.
“ICU” is lifted from Jones’ 2022 EP, What I Didn’t Tell You, which was reissued in 2023 with a deluxe edition.
Jones explained that “ICU” is about “the push and pull of being in a relationship where the circumstances have changed. Growing in our career and personal goals, but growing apart at the same time.”
What I Didn’t Tell You (Deluxe) was nominated for Best R&B Album. The award ultimately went to Monét’s debut album, JAGUAR II.
Produced by Camper, “ICU” reached the top 10 on multiple Billboard charts, including Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (No. 1), R&B Digital Song Sales (No. 1), Adult R&B Airplay (No. 2), Hot R&B Songs (No. 6), and R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales (No. 5). It also peaked at No. 62 on the Hot 100. It marked her first entry on the popular singles chart.
Additionally, “ICU” reached No. 1 at urban radio, scoring Jones her first chart-topper on this airplay format.
Last July, Jones teamed up with fellow Tennessee native Justin Timberlake for the official “ICU (Remix).”
Circling back to the Grammys, Jones scored five nominations, including Best R&B Performance, Best Traditional R&B Performance, Best R&B Song, Best R&B Album and Best New Artist. The latter award will be revealed during the televised ceremony.
