Ne-Yo is no longer under the major-label system. Nearly two decades into his career, he is taking the independent route with his label Compound Entertainment.
His new single, “2 Million Secrets,” marks the beginning of a new chapter. On the confessional track, Ne-Yo opens up about his flaws in a past relationship and takes accountability for those actions.
“So now I’m drinking a little more frequent, smoking a little more lately / I kept two million secrets, she got every reason to hate mе / ‘Cause I played with her hеart / She got every reason to hate me / And it’s tearing me apart,” he croons.
“2 Million Secrets” arrives with a cinematic video directed by Ne-Yo. In the seven-minute clip, Ne-Yo plays Agent Smith, who is sent on an undercover mission to essentially take down Queen Hershey, a dangerous queenpin. He’s directed to get close to her by methods of his own preference, enough to build trust and gain intel. Is he able to successfully complete the mission? You’ll have to watch the video below to find out.
“2 Million Secrets” is the follow-up to 2023’s “Link Up,” later reissued with a remix featuring Fabolous. It appears that was his final release release under Motown/Universal Music Group.
“It’s a blessing to be in this position to control my own destiny as an independent artist,” says Ne-Yo. “My artistry means everything to me and I’m excited to embrace this new beginning with ‘2 Million Secrets.’ It’s a personal song that took growth to write, but I’m proud to share it with the world.”
In other news, Ne-Yo recently achieved his first diamond certification from the RIAA for “Give Me Everything,” the EDM hit he made with Pitbull.
