Melanie Fiona is gearing up for a musical return. The Grammy-winning singer has announced her new single, “Say Yes,” will release Oct. 25.

Fiona unveiled the news on Instagram on Thursday (Oct. 17) evening in a heartfelt post. “To my loyal supporters and online community, anyone who has been here, or just got here…. Thank YOU for your consistent love and support as I lost and found my way back to this era of new music,” Fiona wrote.

She continued, “Thank YOU for showing me grace and unwavering love as I evolved as an Artist, Mother, and Human Being. Thank YOU for holding space for me to heal from things unspoken, and always letting me know ‘We’re ready for new music when you are’… … I Am Ready.”

“Say Yes,” which will be accompanied by the B-side “I Choose You,” will mark Fiona’s first official release in seven years. She dropped her last proper single, “Remember U,” in September 2017 via Primary Wave Records.

The latter song arrived two years after she released “Bite The Bullet.” Both were intended to appear on her third album, Next Train, but it got shelved.

Although Fiona has been on a musical hiatus, she did drop a few tracks over the years, including “The Christmas Song” (2018), “Don’t Explain” from Celebrating Nina: A Reggae Tribute to Nina Simone (2022), and a Bass & Bars Edition of her “Natural” collaboration with Brady Watt (2022).

In 2022, Fiona scored her first platinum certification from the RIAA with “It Kills Me,” her breakout single from her 2009 debut album, The Bridge.

Written by the late Andrea Martin, “It Kills Me” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, where it spent two weeks atop the chart.

“It Kills Me” landed Fiona a nomination at the 52nd Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

In 2012, Fiona released her sophomore album, The MF Life, which spawned the Grammy-nominated hit “Wrong Side Of A Love Song.” The album’s second single, “4AM,” produced by Rico Love, was certified gold by the RIAA for selling 500,000 units. It marked Fiona’s first RIAA award.
