Grammy-winning R&B star Chris Brown has finally released a video for his fan-favorite track “Residuals.”
Directed by Travis Colbert, the video incorporates footage from Brown’s sold-out stadium shows in South Africa and Brazil, featuring both onstage and behind-the-scenes moments.
It wouldn’t be a Chris Brown video without some sort of storyline. Towards the latter part of the video, Brown is shown driving before he gets t-boned by another vehicle. He awakens in a realm where he is greeted by a woman. You’ll have to watch to see how it all plays out.
Brown’s “Residuals” video premiere comes ahead of the 2025 Grammy Awards, where he is nominated in three categories:
- Best R&B Album – 11:11 (Deluxe)
- Best R&B Performance – “Residuals”
- Best African Music Performance – “Sensational” featuring Davido and Lojay
“Residuals,” produced by Eric Hudson and Blaq Tuxedo, appears on Brown’s 11:11 (Deluxe). The expanded album was released April 11, 2024, with 13 additional tracks that included guest appearances from Mario, Bryson Tiller, Davido, and more.
The standard version of Brown’s 11th album was released Nov. 10, 2023, via Chris Brown Entertainment/RCA Records.
Circling back to “Residuals,” the forlorn ballad reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Airplay chart, tallying Brown’s 14th chart-topper.
At the time of this writing, “Residuals” is No. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its 20th week and has peaked at No. 58. It’s also steadily climbing on the Adult R&B Airplay chart in its peak position, No. 17.
In an interview with Rated R&B, Blaq Tuxedo, the music duo consisting of brothers Darius and Dominique Logan, revealed “Residuals” was intended for Brown’s 10th album, Breezy.
“That was the first song that kicked off the album. He records a lot of songs, so it kind of got buried. We ended up doing ‘Iffy.’ We created that song the same week and he rode with that, which was a blessing,” Darius told Rated R&B.
Dominique added, “We were playing it at a party and he called the next morning like, ‘Yo, I’m putting this on the album.’ He wanted to put it on [Breezy], but it didn’t fit the mood of that music, so the timing was right.”
