Grammy-nominated artist Leven Kali has returned with his new single “Are U Still,” his first release under Def Jam Recordings.
He co-wrote and co-produced the track with his longtime collaborator Sol Was.
On “Are U Still,” Kali reaches out to a lover to see where things stand between them after a conflict. The funky song feels like the sun peeking through the clouds after a storm, hinting at clearer skies ahead. It’s also a reminder that love isn’t always easy, and not every battle has to end in a breakup.
“Baby come talk to me / Are you still in love like I am?” he croons over warm instrumentation that’s dosed with groovy guitar, rolling piano and snappy drums.
“Are U Still” is Kali’s first release since his 2022 EP, Let It Rain. The independent project, which included the singles “Let It Rain” and “Everything I Want,” came out four months after his contributions to Beyoncé’s Renaissance were heard.
He co-wrote and co-produced four tracks on the album, including “Alien Superstar,” “Plastic Off The Sofa,” “Virgo’s Groove” and “Summer Renaissance.”
“Seeing the effect these songs have on people is insane. I’ve been at different parties where it’s people listening to that album from beginning to the end,” Kali told Rated R&B in a 2022 interview.
“It just has this infectious, uplifting and coming together effect on people that I feel is an element of R&B and Black music that used to be around all the time and has been missing. That really inspired me to have some of my own records kind of give that same energy.”
Speaking of Beyoncé, Leven Kali also co-wrote “Bodyguard” from her Grammy-winning album, Cowboy Carter, which won Album of the Year at the 2025 Grammys.
