Tiwa Savage, the Queen of Afrobeats, is dipping back into her R&B bag. The Nigerian singer, who has written for artists such as Fantasia and Chrisette Michele, has shared her new single, “You4Me.”
The sultry jam, produced by Mystro, samples Tamia‘s 1998 classic “So Into You.” Lyrically, the song captures the sensational feeling of falling in love.
“I’m down to do what you really want to / Champagne with a little fun, yeah / Show me what you really want / Nobody do me as good as you,” Savage sings.
Speaking on her new track, Savage shares, “I’m a ’90s R&B girl at heart.”
“You4Me” is the follow-up to “Forgiveness,” released in October 2024. Savage co-wrote the latter song with Muni Long and Theron Thomas.
Both songs will appear on Tiwa Savage’s forthcoming album, This One Is Personal, coming this summer via Everything Savage/EMPIRE.
This One Is Personal follows Savage’s 2021 EP, Water & Garri. The project included collaborations with Brandy (“Somebody’s Son“), Amaarae, Tay Iwar, Nas, and Rich King. Before that, Savage released her third studio album, Celia, in August 2020
In other music news, Savage joined Craig David in February on “Commitment,” the title track to his upcoming album.
As indicated above, Tiwa Savage may be the Queen of Afrobeats, but R&B holds a special place in her heart. In a 2021 interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, she shared, “Brandy is literally the reason why I started singing, literally. As a kid, just listening to ‘I Wanna Be Down,’ every interview I’ve ever had, she’s my favorite, my all-time, my mentor, everything.”
She added, “I’ve been trying to work with her for years. It was a dream of mine. And when it happened this time, it’s not even just music, we connected like sisters. She’s someone that I speak to literally every other day. It’s beyond my expectations.”
