Mariah Carey‘s new era is off to a spectacular start. The iconic singer and songwriter’s fresh single “Type Dangerous” opens at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B Digital Song Sales chart.

It tallies Carey’s third No. 1 on this chart, which launched in November 2012. She earned her first chart-topper with 2013’s “#Beautiful” with Miguel, which appeared on her album Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse.

In 2020, Carey returned to the top with “Oh Santa!” featuring Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. The festive track is a remix of her “Oh Santa!” lifted from her 2010 album, Merry Christmas II You. The Grande and Hudson-assisted version appeared on the soundtrack for Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special.

Elsewhere on Billboard, “Type Dangerous” debuts at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales, No. 4 on Digital Song Sales, No. 7 on Hot R&B Songs, No. 15 on Adult R&B Airplay and No. 95 on the Hot 100.

Further, “Type Dangerous” marks Carey’s 50th entry on the Hot 100 chart, 19 of which are No. 1s.

Carey released “Type Dangerous” June 6 via MARIAH/gamma. The song, which Carey co-wrote with Anderson .Paak and Rae Khalil, is the first single from Carey’s anticipated 16th album.

“I’m so excited to finally be releasing ‘Type Dangerous’ into the world,” Carey said. “I’ve been locked up in the studio for quite some time working my behind off on new music, and I’m thrilled for the unveiling of it to my fans, starting with ‘Type Dangerous’!”

Carey’s forthcoming album will follow 2018’s Caution, released via Epic Records. The album included the singles “GTFO,” “A No No” and “The Distance” featuring Ty Dolla $ign. It also featured Gunna, Slick Rick and Blood Orange.

On Saturday (June 14), Carey premiered the official music video for “Type Dangerous.” The Joseph Kahn-directed video, which already has over 1.3 million views on YouTube, includes a special cameo from popular YouTuber Mr. Beast, who has over 400 million subscribers.

Carey headlined the Summertime Ball in London on Sunday (June 14), her first performance in the U.K. in six years. The Ultimate Icon‘s set included “Type Dangerous,” as well as several songs from her timeless catalog.
