Just when you thought Mariah Carey went all out to celebrate her favorite time of the year in 2019, the global R&B superstar promises to add more to the wish list this year with help from Apple.
The company has revealed its plans to globally debut a holiday-inspired special in honor of the undisputed Queen of Christmas. The forthcoming festive celebration, which will be exclusive to Apple TV, is called Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special, and it was directed by Hamish Hamilton and Roman Coppola.
The new special, which is likely not going to be your average seasonal event, will feature the elusive icon commemorating one of the best times of the year with music, dancing, and animation. Carey will also invite some special guests to help tell a universally heartwarming story to bring light to the world.
The official release date for Mariah Carey’s Magical Christmas Special has yet to be announced. Apple teased to premiere the special on the heels of the 25th anniversary of her modern holiday classic, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” which peaked at number one on the Hot 100 during the tracking week of December 21, 2019. It became Carey’s 19th Hot 100 chart-leader.
As we anticipate the season of sing-alongs with Carey, she is set to release her very-first memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey on September 29. “This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival and my songs,” Carey wrote in a statement on Instagram. “Unfiltered, I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.”
On October 2, Carey will come out with the new album The Rarities. It will feature her newest track “Save The Day” featuring Lauryn Hill, as well as other rare gems from her long-standing career. The two-disc album will also contain songs performed live at Tokyo Dome in 1996, when she was on her Daydream World Tour.
