Kelly Rowland Returns With New Single ‘Coffee’

Cup of joe, anyone? Kelly Rowland makes her anticipated return to R&B with her new single, “Coffee,” which is good down to the last drop.

The freshly brewed track was first teased last September but wasn’t released until now.

Fronted by caffeinated instrumentation, the Grammy-winning diva sings, “Coffee and sex in the mornin’ / Breakfast in bed I’ve been wantin’/ Before you go to work / I need you to go to work.”

Rowland packages the perfectly roasted jam with a breathtaking music video, which was directed by Steven Gomillion.

“Coffee” is the start of a new era for Rowland. Speaking on the song, Rowland says, “To me, COFFEE is about embracing your individuality, sexuality, or imperfections.”

She continues, “Not comparing yourself to others. We need to celebrate ourselves more often — with this song, I want you to have yourself in mind. I want to remind women all over to reignite their magic!”

While Rowland released a three-track EP and collaborated with Ciara in 2019 and dropped a few standalone tracks (“Crown,” “Kelly”) over the years, she hasn’t released a proper full-length album since 2013’s Talk a Good Game.

For her fifth studio effort, Rowland assured fans on Instagram in late 2018 that the new material won’t sound like anyone else but herself.

“I promised myself for this record I’m not writing anything that could go to any other young lady who sings R&B — with all due respect,” she said.

Rowland continued, “I just wanted it to be very personal. And I want it to be more organic and honest. It’s some stuff I decided to talk about on records that I even shocked myself that was like word vomit that I’m saying. I allowed myself to be vulnerable. I allowed myself to be a real human. It feels fantastic and I’m very proud.”
