This year’s Juneteeth is proving to be one for the books, especially when it comes to the release of conscious tracks.
Amber Mark joins the crusade of Blackness with her urgent rendition of “My People,” which was originally performed by Eddie Kendricks.
In a calming yet stern cadence, the rising singer uses the reworked version to provide cultural subtext to her brothers and sisters as they push onward in their quest for peace and equality.
“My People” comes a month after Mark dropped her empowering anthem “1894.” She also debuted a cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box” and the soulfully-serene “Waiting (Demo)” during quarantine.
