It’s official: Keyshia Cole will step inside the Verzuz ring with Ashanti on December 12.
While running through 20 classics from her nearly two-decade catalog, the Grammy-nominated superstar plans to debut a new song from her upcoming eighth studio album, as exclusively learned from music executive Ron Fair.
“It’s so satisfying because she’s doing what we used to do [together],” Fair revealed to Rated R&B over the phone about her Verzuz song premiere. “I did the first four albums with her, but the first three were really successful. We’re excited about this new stuff for sure. She’s sounding great.”
When asked about Cole’s untitled new album, Fair told Rated R&B, “I’m excited about it. We’ve done five-six vocals already down in my studio in Nashville and she’s killing it. She’s figured out who she is to all her fans with the choice of songs on this record and it’s going to be extraordinarily satisfying.”
In June, it was announced that Cole and Fair were reuniting on new music after ten years apart. “I’m beyond happy to be reunited with my musical father Ron Fair, who believed in me from the very beginning,” Cole shared in a press statement. “[We’re] moving beyond our own footsteps, humble and aware of the shoes we need to fill.”
Calling All Hearts, which was released in December 2010, was the last album that Fair worked on with Cole. Before the gold-selling album, the two earned three consecutive platinum albums together, including The Way It Is, Just Like You, and A Different Me. Her 2005 debut LP celebrated its 15th anniversary in June. We revisited the album with a special write-up.
Cole, whose last album 11:11 Reset was released in 2017, has been cooking up new classics with the likes of Lucky Daye, Elijah Blake, and Tristan Rice.
