As for Rowland, she is still working on her follow-up to 2013’s Talk a Good Game. She collaborated with Dove to release an empowering track titled “Crown,” as part of its #MyHairMyCrown campaign. Prior to her partnership, she shared an eponymous single. It marked her first release as an indie artist.
“I think that what I’m most happy about now is the fact that I’m not signed,” she confessed on Instagram. “I don’t have a label that is putting all the money or anything behind everything, it’s all me. I gave myself permission to say, ‘It’s okay that I don’t have a label.’ I had a label my whole life and every time I had a label it was just always something. I did this on my own and I’m very proud. I believed in me and I believed in this record. I put my money behind it and so far everybody is loving it.”
