A new Gallant era is upon us. The Grammy-nominated artist dabbles into retro-soul on “Sharpest Edges,” the lead single off his forthcoming sophomore album due later this year.
Attracted to a woman who is desirable yet jaded on love, Gallant finds it hard to get anywhere to close to her without being “cut up, down and in between.”
For his next album, the follow-up to 2016’s Ology, Gallant has managed to craft more than 100 songs. Unlike his previous effort that relied mostly on production support from Stint, Gallant is venturing out and working with different producers and artists this next album.
“I was more insular and analytical then,” he shared with Billboard, “Thinking and asking a lot of questions. But this time, it’s a lot more about feeling than thinking. That’s a massive shift for me.”
Gallant, who declared earlier this year his untitled second LP will be his favorite album of 2019, insists this new project will be “more fluid, healthy and diverse.”
“I feel comfortable giving it this label because it means something different than it meant five years ago,” he told Billboard.
Prior to releasing “Sharpest Edges,” Gallant premiered a “Gentlemen (Remix)” featuring T-Pain in April and teamed with SaLaAM ReMi for “Roll the Dice” in February.
He unleashed three ambitious songs in 2018, “TOOGOODTOBETRUE,” “Doesn’t Matter,” and the original “Gentlemen.”
