Cautious Clay has a petty girl on his hands. The left-field songster, however, isn’t buying into her antics on “Reaching,” his contribution to the season four soundtrack of HBO’s Insecure.
Gliding over a blipping beat, with vocal guest Alex Isley, Clay gives his girlfriend some time to cool off after her unfettered behavior has caused their relationship to reach an all new low.
Clay’s recent attachment to a popular soundtrack isn’t a stretch for him. He appeared on the season three soundtrack (“Swim Home“) of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why last August.
Speaking of 2019, Clay had his name rolling off everyone’s tongue with his Table of Context EP and the fall world tour that supported the project.
“I wanted to make this third EP a consolidation of a lot of the thoughts I was talking about on Blood Type and on Resonance.,” Clay told Rated R&B about Table of Context in March 2019.
“So, I feel like the notions of purpose and happiness don’t have to be contrary to each other,” he said. “They can be similar, but they’re separate at the same time because I think people oftentimes think they have to have a purpose, but it’s something that can just come and go.”
Insecure returns for the fourth season on April 12 at 10 p.m. EST on HBO.
