One of the biggest records of 2000 was “Thong Song” by SisQó. The Grammy-nominated track, which appeared on his second album Unleash the Dragon, became an international hit.
Twenty years later, Amber Mark is livin’ la vida loca and decides to cover the timeless record.
Mark, who produced the rendition herself, makes a hard left in the stylistic realm. Instead of keeping the same energetic energy as the original, she turns it in what she describes as a “smooth house version.”
You’ll have to listen to her gloriously unexpected version below to find out what she means. She also accompanies the remake with an iPhone-captured music video.
Mark has been quite “Generous” with new music this year. The rising star has dished out several bops, including Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box,” the soulfully-serene “Waiting (Demo),” the empowering “1894,” and the compelling “My People.”
