Keke Palmer has become an even bigger deal.
The multifaceted superstar has signed on to host the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards, which will be presented virtually August 30 at several outdoor locations around New York City at 8 p.m. ET.
Palmer shared the exciting news over a kiki with Mad Style’s former Vice President and Nickelodeon starlet True Jackson. Watch the hilarious clip below.

ViacomCBS’ President of Music, Music Talent, Programming & Events Bruce Gillmer is just as thrilled as Jackson for Palmer to host the 2020 show. “Keke is an energetic force and a quadruple threat with unmatched comedic wit who will make this year’s show truly unforgettable,” he said in a press statement.
This is a celebratory moment for Palmer. She is the first Black woman to host the award ceremony since 1987, when former MTV VJ Downtown Julie Brown served as a host.
According to recent reports, the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will no longer be held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The pandemic has raised several health concerns for many, causing the network to take an alternative route in the show’s presentation.
“In close consultation with state and local health officials, it became clear at this time that outdoor performances with limited or no audience would be more feasible and safer than an indoor event,” said in a press statement. “The VMAs will highlight the boroughs in an exciting show and return to Barclays Center in 2021. MTV will continue to work closely with the Department of Health, state and local officials, the medical community, and key stakeholders to ensure the safety of all involved.”
Sending Palmer off on a positive note, the tireless star has been dishing out single after single these past few months. Her bop collection includes the anthemic “Snack,” the energy-booster “Thick,” the trap-leaning “Sticky,” the braggadocious “Got Em Mad” and the horoscope-telling “Virgo Tendencies.”
