India Shawn considers leaving an unhealthy relationship a form of self-care on her newest single “Movin’ On” featuring music phenom Anderson .Paak.
Booming in supreme confidence on the follow-up to the 6LACK-assisted “Not Too Deep,” Shawn recruits R&B juggernauts Varren Wade and D’Mile for writing and production assistance.
On “Movin’ On,” the Epic Records signee is eclipsed in optimism and anticipation for greatness after rediscovering her sense of worth following a breakup.
The song, which includes .Paak’s indisputable swagger of ad-libs and his funky-soul rap delivery and vocals, is saturated with D’Mile’s calling card: nuances of new and classic R&B instrumentation.
Shawn spoke to Rated R&B earlier this year about receiving a verse from .Paak for a yet-titled-record. Her only fear though was “whether or not he’s going to let me clear it… (laughs).” It appears Shawn got her wish.
She also hinted at the direction of her first collection of songs since 2015’s Outer Limits.
“The project is pretty much finished and it’s just a range of my experiences being back here (in L.A). as a woman, navigating womanhood, making terrible decisions and having to face myself with that. But, there’s also really empowering songs,” Shawn told Rated R&B.
In the wake of the civil unrest against Black people in June, .Paak released the protest track “Lockdown.” He also released a powerful accompanying visual.
