After days of cryptically teasing a surprise collaboration with a number of inspiring women in music, including the legendary country star Dolly Parton, Monica has finally revealed the complete lineup and the track itself.
“Pink” is a beautifully resilient guitar-laden tune that bridges genres and brings together the heart-warming voices of Parton and Monica, as well as Jordin Sparks, Sara Evans, and Rita Wilson, to offer encouragement and strength to the families of those who have lost someone to the brave fight of breast cancer. It’s also a moving reminder to anyone in the fight against the disease.
The song, written by Victoria Shaw, Jodi Marr, and Erin Kinsey, is perfectly timed, as October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. It’s also incredibly personal to Wilson, who is a breast cancer survivor.
“1 in 8 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime,” Wilson wrote in an Instagram post. “I was one of them. I am thrilled to be working on something that will bring hope and comfort to all those facing breast cancer.”
Speaking on collaborating with the all-star cast of divas, Monica wrote on Instagram ahead of the song’s release, “It’s so rewarding to work with talented performers connected by a passion for an urgent cause.”
She added this about Parton, “My Day 1’s know I’ve loved her since I was a child & started visiting her many establishments. This is an honor.”
A portion of the song’s proceeds will benefit Susan G. Komen, the world’s leading breast cancer organization. The generous donations will assist with funding to help end breast cancer through research and patient services provided by the organization.
On November 20, Monica will release her long-awaited album Trenches. The title track featuring Lil Baby serves as the lead single.
Monica is also set to guest host her own Apple Music show titled Mo Talk.
