Ty Dolla $ign has a new anthem for independent women; it’s called “By Yourself.”
On the Jhené Aiko-assisted jam, which samples Billie Piper’s cover of Changing Faces’ track “G.H.E.T.T.O.U.T.,” Dolla $ign sends an uplifting message to women.
“You your own boss, do it your way / Quick to tell a broke nigga, “Go away” / You ain’t never ’bout no drama / You ain’t prеssed / You want biggеr things and better things,” Dolla $ign sings in the first verse.
Aiko joins in for the second verse with Instagram-ready punchlines, “I be ridin’ through the hood bumpin’ my own shit / Headed to the crib right by the ocean.”
Speaking on the song’s inspiration, Dolla $ign tweeted, “‘By Yourself’ is an ode to all the amazing women, especially all single women and the single mothers, who do this thing called life on their own. Especially now more than ever. Ladies if you’re handling your responsibilities by yourself, just know we see you and appreciate you!”
“By Yourself” will appear on the California native’s upcoming album Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, which is set to drop on October 23 via Atlantic Records. The album will also include his previously shared songs “Expensive” featuring Nicki Minaj and “Ego Death” featuring Kanye West, FKA twigs and Skrillex.
Earlier this week, Dolla $ign joined R&B legend Brandy on stage at the Billboard Music Awards to perform her latest track “No Tomorrow, Pt. 2.”
