Earlier this year, Donell Jones revealed plans to release a completely free album on November 11. After pushing back the date, he plans to deliver his seventh studio album 100% Free next month. To celebrate the unveiling of the album title, the R&B vet has released a new song titled “Karma (Payback).”
Over a suave production, he lends his buttery smooth tone to let his deceitful ex know that every wrongdoing she caused to his heart and their relationship is going to come back to her tenfold. “Karma (Payback)” is an urban AC radio smash waiting to happen.
This new single is the first offering from Jones since 2016’s “Never Let Her Go” featuring David Banner. As for an album itself, Jones’ last full-length project was 2013’s Forever. It’s a record that he told Rated R&B was easily comparable to his 1999 classic Where I Wanna Be.
“I would say Where I Wanna Be was my most personal album that I put out and Forever is no different than that,” Jones said. “Everything about Where I Wanna Be, I lived every moment of that and that’s why those songs are so personal. [Forever] is just the same. It’s my life, my struggles, growing up…life in general. I really feel like those two albums really do compare as far as me being a songwriter, musician and person.”
Following the release of 100% Free in December, Jones is expected to put out another album in 2021.
