It’s going to be a cold one, folks. That being said, Jake&Papa has prepared to be cuddled under their respective women on these chilly nights ahead, playing their latest EP, Blackberry Winter. It arrives two years after The R.O.S.E. Tape.
The brother duo’s inspiration behind Blackberry Winter comes from realizing that some of the sweetest and most nourishing moments in life are born in the darkest and coldest times. The vulnerable seven-song set, self-written by Jake&Papa, captures the feelings of experiencing love and heartbreak.
The elevated, Kenyon Dixon-featured track “Higher” focuses on the former topic, while “So Far Gone” is a trippy tale of an ended-relationship.
On “Solo,” Jake&Papa grapples with the depressive aftermath of a breakup, singing with their heads hanging down to Sade, Anita Baker, Brandy, and Aaliyah. Meanwhile, “B.E.T. Uncut” is mood music for the late-night hours.
Aside from Dixon, rising soul artist Garren appears on Blackberry Winter.
