Brandy, known as the first Black Cinderella, will forever be our favorite Disney princess. The R&B royal will continue her reign in the Disney empire with a new original song for the company’s 2021 Ultimate Princess Celebration.
The celebration’s theme song, “Starting Now,” was written by Jason Mater, Jordan Powers, and Darren Criss and produced by Warren “Oak” Felder.
Brandy described the song on social media, stating it “celebrates courage and kindness.” Her new track will be released on May 21 with a lyric video.
An official music video will follow soon. It will be attached to this August’s Disney Princess Remixed – An Ultimate Princess Celebration, a half-hour music special debuting on the Disney Channel. The show will feature multi-talented stars from the network performing their renditions of iconic songs from Disney princesses and queens.
The celebration announcement comes months after Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, in which she starred, started streaming on Disney Plus.
Other noteworthy Brandy news includes her guest appearance on Gallant’s most recent EP Neptune, as well as her starring role in ABC’s hip-hop drama pilot Queens.
Brandy’s last album, b7, was dubbed the best R&B album of 2020 by Rated R&B.
