Silk Sonic, composed of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak, has claimed the number-one spot on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart this week.
In just four weeks, “Leave The Door Open,” the duo’s Motown-influenced single has darted to first place on the airplay-focused chart. It pings the quickest sprint to the pole position since 2016, when Mary J. Blige’s big single “Thick of It” reached the peak. It also is one of the five songs to assume the first chair in less than a month.
Even more impressive, though Mars and .Paak record under the name Silk Sonic, the feat was listed on their individual chart ledgers, crediting them each as the only solo male artists to complete this speedy victory to the summit.
“Leave The Door Open” is Mars’ fifth song to check-in under the name: number-one. The global phenom’s prior reservation at the top floor was “Finesse (Remix)” with Cardi B back in 2018.
On another positive note, .Paak is celebrating his first lap across the Adult R&B Songs track. He was almost to the home stretch in 2019 with “Make It Better,” a duet featuring Smokey Robinson. The song, lifted from his Ventura album, reached No. 2.
Expect Silk Sonic’s debut project, An Evening with Silk Sonic, to arrive later this year. Guest appearances on the album include the legendary Bootsy Collins, who will be featured on the opening track.
