The reigning Queen of Christmas, globally known as Mariah Carey, has called on Khalid and gospel legend Kirk Franklin for her new festive single, “Fall in Love at Christmas.” It arrives with a supporting video, which can be viewed below.
The heartwarming anthem is a beautiful reminder of what the holiday season is all about. “This time of year we won’t throw away / We gotta fall in love again at Christmas time / And all the angels in the sky / Shine down on us as we roll by,” Carey and Khalid harmonize on the chorus.
Known for occasionally incorporating gospel in her music, Carey brings in Franklin and a choir for the outro to take the song to church. “Pray that we will find / A love for all mankind / This Christmas time,” they sing, with Franklin adding his signature ad-libs.
“Fall in Love at Christmas” will be featured in Carey’s upcoming Apple TV+ special, Mariah’s Christmas: The Magic Continues. Carey and friends will perform the magical track for the first and only time. The special is slated to premiere in December.
As the world gets acquainted with “Fall in Love at Christmas,” Carey’s modern-day classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” continues to gain momentum on streaming platforms. As of now, it has more than 938 million streams on Spotify alone, eyeing the one-billion mark. Meanwhile, the official video has been viewed more than 698 million times on YouTube.
In December 2019, “All I Want For Christmas Is You,” lifted from her 1994 LP Merry Christmas, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time. It was the first holiday song to reach this coveted spot since “The Chipmunk Song” in 1958-1959. It reentered the top spot in December 2020, and January 2021.
In other Carey news, the iconic singer-songwriter launched a premium liqueur brand in August called Black Irish. The name was inspired by Carey’s heritage. (Her mother is Irish American and her father was half Black and half Venezuelan.)
Last month, Carey restored her #MC30 campaign with her Joy To The World EP. It features seven mixes of Carey’s rendition of the holiday staple, which originally appeared on her 1994 album, Merry Christmas. She released a deluxe edition of the album in 2019 to commemorate its 25th anniversary. Merry Christmas (Deluxe Anniversary Edition) included all the songs from the original album, plus a special bonus disc with rare remixes, unreleased live tracks from her 1994 St. John the Divine Concert and a new rendition of “Sugar Plum Fairy.”
