Dixson has put taste buds everywhere in a frenzy, teaming with Sevyn Streeter for his sweet new single “Cherry Sorbet.” The Oscar nominee self-produced the frozen treat and co-wrote it with Streeter.
Bound to stain lips with its brilliantly colored arrangements, “Cherry Sorbet” bursts with delicious and tasteful lines inspired by a forbidden liaison. Streeter knows she and this interest don’t mesh well on other things except for the lip-smacking attraction for one another in the bedroom.
Streeter gives in to the temptation, and Dixson gladly obliges, wanting to get a face full of love juice that will have him asking for a towel soon. “Prioritize you when it’s time to eat,” sings Dixson.
Of his new song, Dixson explains, “‘Cherry Sorbet’ is the first offering from the new world I’m creating sonically. It’s got a Beatles sample and it’s still a little nasty. I call that a win/win!”
As of right now, Dixson has not announced “Cherry Sorbet” as a single for a future project.
Yet, he revealed to Rated R&B earlier this year that he has two projects on the way. According to Dixson, the two-part set will be considered one complete album, and both will be rooted in his theatrical past.
“For me, this next one is peeling back a layer that I haven’t expressed before in my music,” Dixson explained. “When I write songs for other people, I always embody a character. I try to give them something more than just themselves. I want to do that for myself in this music.”
He added, “The first project is the lead-up and interlude to this bigger character. The music is very different from, say, the DARLING project, where the goal was to let people know I’m a singer and producer.”
Dixson recently had a nice buzz going for himself during the winter award season, scoring his first-ever Golden Globes and Oscar nominations. The acknowledgments were for his work on “Be Alive,” an original song that Beyoncé co-wrote and co-produced and performed for King Richard.
As mentioned above, DARLING is Dixson’s most recent project. Rated R&B crowned it as one of the Best R&B Albums of 2021. He is currently supporting it on Rotimi’s All or Nothing Tour on select dates.
For Mother’s Day weekend (May 6-8), Streeter is headed to Atlanta for Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit. She’ll promote her latest album, Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz, which also has a deluxe version.
