No one had heard a peep from THEY. following the reinvention of “Count Me In” with Kiana Ledé in February 2021. The standard version appeared on their 2020 album The Amanda Tape. But look no further, as the R&B duo is back with new music to launch a new era.
The first single, “Blü Moon,” was written by THEY, alongside the legendary Troy Taylor and Caleb Contreras. The last two studio associates also contributed to the noticeable production tint that resembles early 2000s R&B.
Put together finely with respect to slow jams of the past, the duo’s vocalist Drew Love humbles himself from his wild oats to present as a suitable interest for a special lady. He applies no pressure to set things in motion with this person but he’d like if they just keep it factual as he’s ready on their command.
Love croons, “Ain’t gotta say nothing, you know I been around the way / Skip the bullshit, you might as well just tell it to me straight / Girl, you been caught my eye / I’m thinkin’ we might tonight (Thinkin’ we might tonight).”
THEY shared a music video for “Blü Moon” to paint a more accurate depiction. The Priya Minhas-directed video follows the two as they travel a service road.
As the sun sets, a beautiful woman hitches a ride with them. She’s all googly-eyed for the duo’s producer Dante Jones. You’ll have to watch the full video to see how it continues to take shape.
Noted earlier, “Blü Moon” is the first taste of what is yet to be seen from THEY. Their previous album, The Amanda Tape, which featured Tinashe, Juicy J and Wale, engaged them to embark on a trajectory that incorporates more R&B elements.
In a fall 2020 profile with Rated R&B, Love signaled songs like “Blü Moon” would be explored as their careers continued to gain steam.
He said, “From the beginning, all we’ve ever done was take R&B and experiment with it and I think we’re going to continue to do that moving forward.”
