Bryson Tiller is back. The Grammy-nominated singer revisits the snap era on his new single “Outside.”
The Vinlyz-helmed track samples Ying Yang Twins’ 2005 hit “Wait (The Whisper Song),” which was produced by Mr. Collipark.
Over a pulsing bass complemented by hi-hats and finger snaps, Tiller finds himself getting flirty with a newly-single woman. It’s a feel-good tune with a tempo that comes just in time as the summer season winds down.
“Hate to be your ex, know that n*gga feel stupid / Thumbin’ through the ‘Gram, tryna figure out where you been / All he need to know is that you’re outside / Watchin’ real time while you’re too live / Easily adjusted to your new life,” he sings on the catchy bop.
Speaking on his new single, Tiller says, “‘Outside’ is the polar opposite of what everyone is used to hearing from me. Normally we would release a song intended to put people deep in their feelings, but this song is ANTI-FEELS.”
As noted above, “Outside” samples Ying Yang Twins’ Grammy-nominated hit. In an unpublished portion of an interview with Rated R&B, Mr. Collipark reflected on “The Whisper Song,” which appeared on the rap duo’s album, U.S.A. (United State of Atlanta).
“I think that’s one of the most incredible records of all time,” Mr. Collipark told Rated R&B in 2020. “Just sonically, everything about that song… there’s never been another record with the influence that song has had in the history of all music.”
He added, “We get the recognition, but not from a creative aspect. I think creatively, that was us at our peak. I feel like we ushered in that sub-genre of hip-hop with Ying Yang Twins. ‘The Whisper Song’ is up there with whatever your all-time hip hop song is. Of course, I’m biased but I think that record should be up there.”

Circling back to “Outside,” it is the first single from Tiller’s upcoming album that is expected to arrive this fall on Trapsoul/RCA Records.
His impending project will follow 2020’s A N N I V E R S A R Y, which was released on the fifth anniversary (Oct. 2) of his debut album, T R A P S O U L.
A N N I V E R S A R Y, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart, was released in tribute to Tiller’s grandmother who passed away in April 2020.
“I wanna dedicate this new album to my granny. i love you and i promise i’ll take care of everything you left behind,” Tiller tweeted.

In February 2021, Tiller returned with A N N I V E R S A R Y (Deluxe), which included five additional tracks. Later that year, he treated his fans to a couple more projects.
In November 2021, Tiller released his Killer Instinct 2: The Nightmare Before mixtape and a holiday-themed project titled A Different Christmas. It featured appearances from Justin Bieber, Kiana Ledé, Poo Bear, Tayla Parx and Tiller’s daughter Halo.
Earlier this year, Tiller joined forces with British DJ/producer Joel Corry and French DJ/producer David Guetta on their dance track titled “What What You Do?”
Then, in June, he teamed with Diddy on “Gotta Move On,” the lead single to his upcoming R&B-themed album. Tiller performed the party-ready groove alongside Diddy at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, which Diddy hosted, and the 2022 BET Awards.
