Ledisi made her debut appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show on Tuesday (Jan. 31). The Grammy winner treated the audience and viewers with the first televised performance of her new single, “I Need to Know.”
Donning an elegant white coat dress and gold hoops, a cheerful Ledisi displays the depth of her rich voice with the brand new track.
“I Need to Know” premiered last month as the lead single from Ledisi’s upcoming album, which is slated to arrive this spring.
Her latest single, co-written and produced by Rex Rideout, entered at No. 24 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart in the Jan. 28 issue. It’s now No. 22 at the time of publication.
Ledisi issued her previous studio album, The Wild Card, in August 2020. The set, released under her imprint Listen Back in partnership with BMG, included Ledisi’s first No. 1 single, “Anything For You.” It spent two weeks atop the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
“Anything For You,” also produced by Rideout, won Ledisi her first career Grammy, Best Traditional R&B Performance. She won after 13 nominations.
Ledisi earned her 14th Grammy nomination for Ledisi Sings Nina, a tribute album dedicated to High Priestess of Soul Nina Simone in 2021. The remake album was up for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the 64th Grammy Awards in 2022.
Robert Glasper enlisted Ledisi (“It Don’t Matter“) for his Grammy-nominated album Black Radio III. The song also features Gregory Porter.
Away from music, Ledisi embarked on a career in acting, stepping into the role of Mahalia Jackson for the Denise Dowse-directed Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story. The biopic is available for streaming on Hulu.
This Friday (Feb. 3), Ledisi kicks off the Soul II Soul Tour alongside co-headliner Kem. Musiq Soulchild is billed as the special guest.
